Instructional Videos for Course Maintenance: Bouy Replacement 101
President's January '22 Video Message and Thanks - New Bouys
Greetings All,
Several of us met at the dock this past Saturday to position the dock, install another winch on the other end of the dock, and install the slalom course. The weather couldn't have been better! We all arrived at 9:00, had a little talk about what we wanted to get accomplished, and then went to work! It never seems like it will take as long as it always does but we got everything taken care of just like we planned! By the time the dock was in place, the course was put together and installed, and the winch was put in, 5 hours had passed! We were able to have a BBQ, some cold drinks, and even a couple of ski rides before we left!
We bought new buoys to start the year out with (hopefully you have seen the video on our website on how the new turn buoy setup is) and they are FLASHY! We discovered that the boat guides and 55m buoys (all the cylinder shaped buoys) are longer than the ones we have used in the past. Normally we use a 6 foot string on all the buoys however, with the longer cylindrical ones, now we will have to use 5 feet of string instead of 6. We didn't realize this until we were finished and didn't correct the problem (probably should have though). The next time any of you use the course it would be great if you would take the time to shorten the strings to approximately 5 feet. If there are other skiers waiting, either have everyone do it at the same time or just do a couple each time you go out. One way or the other it needs to get done so they float correctly.
I want to graciously thank all who participated! I especially would like to thank those that volunteered their boats! Jay and Kathy, Jim Williams, Sue Houx, and Charlie Widle. For those of you who have done this in the past, you know it is impossible to get it done without the help of the boat owners who are willing to help the Club by using their boats!
The long range forecast looks like we may get some more rain (fingers crossed) but for now I believe the course should be good where it is for quite awhile as long as the County doesn't let any of it out. Please be cautious your first couple of passes so you can get used to the new location and where to drop your skiers. Let's all get out there and get some practice in! Hopefully you all have seen the tournament schedule for this year. It will be here before you know it!
Thanks again to everyone who came out!
Bob
